UIC tabs Howard Moore as new head coach

08/20/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The University of Illinois at Chicago has named Howard Moore, a University of Wisconsin assistant coach, as the school's new head basketball coach.

The 37-year-old Moore, a native of Chicago, grew up a few blocks from the UIC campus. He served the last five seasons as an assistant coach for the Badgers, his alma mater, under Bo Ryan.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to coach at UIC, be back in my hometown, and continue the legacy and tradition of UIC basketball," Moore said. "I am deeply honored and humbled by the opportunity, and I vow to use every ounce of energy I have to get UIC back to the top of the Horizon League and competing for championships."

Moore replaces Jimmy Collins, who announced his retirement last month after 14 years at the school. He leaves as the all-time winningest coach in school history with a 218-208 record and guided the Flames to three NCAA Tournament appearances (1998, 2002, 2004) and one NIT bid (2003).

Mayweather picked to beat De La Hoya
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrived at the MGM Grand here Wednesday amid the pomp and pandemonium befitting two of the biggest stars in the sport who are about to duke it out for the WBC super welterweight crown this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

As of Wednesday, MySportsbook.com closed its book with Mayweather a favorite to defeat De La Hoya at -170 (a $100 bet wins $70), while De La Hoya is a +140 underdog (a $100 bet wins $140).

De La Hoya made his own grand entrance at the hotel lobby at around 12:30 p.m. accompanied by GBP chief executive officer Richard Schaefer and trainer Freddie Roach.

The same group of fans who trooped to see Mayweather also lingered around to get a close look at De La Hoya, who has been secretly working out at a Las Vegas gym for days after arriving from his main training camp in Puerto Rico.

The golden boy then took part in a closed-door afternoon workout with Bautista and Banal. The two, along with Aldeguer and wife Christine, as well as an HBO crew were the only ones allowed inside the gym.

De La Hoya and Mayweather take part in today's final press conference before the official weigh-in this Friday.

Ring Magazine, the acknowledged bible of boxing, reported in its June 2007 issue that 12 out of 20 boxing experts it interviewed have favored Mayweather to defeat De la Hoya, with only 8 favoring the latter.

But Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao said in a recent interview with The Freeman's Emmanuel Villaruel that De La Hoya will win by unanimous decision over Mayweather.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes. 

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
